About this project

Do you love chocolate? I know I do.

No wonder I was absolutely thrilled to photograph at workshop and café Soleil / Casa del Cacao today. This is the only chocolaterie (!!!) in San José, even though Costa Rica produces tons of cacao every year. Most of the cacao is exported. But at Casa del Cacao, you can learn all about this product and even make your own chocolate bar.

I loved photographing the workshop here. Learning more about cacao and how chocolate is made was a lot of fun for a chocolate-obsessed person like me. I am so grateful and happy I chose to specialize in the hospitality field. When you have brands like Casa del Cacao as clients, work doesn’t feel like work.

About Casa del Cacao / Soleil

Casa del Cacao and the chocolate brand Soleil are owned by Cedric, from Belgium. The workshop and café are located right in the centre of San José. A workshop + hot drink + your own chocolate bar costs only $12, which is a bargain, really.

Casa del Cacao boasts a menu full of chocolaty drinks, both hot and cold. These can be accompanied by a piece of delightful chocolate (from their own brand, called Soleil), a Caribbean plate (the chef is from the Caribbean side of Costa Rica!) or one of the heavenly crêpes.
